Things To Do

Adventures around the farm can be as exciting as a day trip and your hosts encourage you to explore a little.  Activities such a daily feeding of pigs or collecting eggs from our free range chickens are always on offer.  There’s often stock management activities happening at the Dent-ed Barn, offering guests the opportunity to get hands on with the animals.

Alternatively, the Dent-ed Barn is situated just 15 minutes from Pakiri beach and 20 minutes from Te Arai Point, offering surfers and swimmers an amazing beach experience.

The ‘foodie’ haven that is Matakana can be found just a short drive over the hill where you can experience the regional farmers market on a Saturday morning or an excellent dining experience at the local Matakana Pub. The Matakana Country Park is ideal for the family where you can experience the petting zoo and purchase local arts and crafts.

The marine reserve at Goat Island, situated as part of the regional reserve at Tawharanui and the excellent fishing opportunities at Leigh are all within 30-minutes of the Farm by car. The Reptile Park at Leigh is fun for young and old featuring not only reptiles but also monkeys, turtles and spiders.

For a family outing, we have Sheep World situated just 15 minutes south on State Highway 1 in the Dome Valley. Here you can watch sheep being sheared, have a close encounter with an Emu and relax in their cafe.

There is a cultural centre in Te Hana, just 7km north of Wellsford which specialises in Moari history and food. Well worth a visit to the accurately re-produced Maori Pa.

For those wishing to experience the delights of local food and wine, there are a number of local vineyards and craft breweries offering a wide selection of their produce, most notable of these are Ascension winery, Herons Flight winery, Forbidden Cider and Sawmill Brewery who have recently opened a new brewery and restaurant
